In 2003, I traveled to Thailand to study Nuad Bo Rarn in Chiang Mai and Bangkok. I had been a practicing massage therapist for 2 years, but this introduced me to an entirely different way to stretch muscles, relieve tension, and open blocked energy flow.
Just as Thailand is geographically and culturally located between China and India, so is Thai yoga massage a combination of healing traditions from both ancient cultures. Acupressure is combined with passive yoga stretches to achieve a deep relaxation combined with revitalizing energy flow. If you enjoy yoga, you will enjoy Thai yoga massage.
There are some important differences between receiving a Thai massage versus a standard table massage. The first difference is that Thai massage is not done on the table, but on a mat on the floor. You will remain fully clothed, although wearing loose, stretchy "yoga" clothes will allow me to move your body through all the positions and stretches.
Since you remain clothed, lubricating oils are not used, although I do like to apply essential oils and sometimes use medicated liniments on certain areas. Sometimes we may use a special warm herbal pack over areas of tension.
Thai yoga massage is not indicated if you have bone or joint issues, or if you have problems with your circulatory system, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetic neuropathy.
